For Daltons Wadkin, the past 12 months have seen growth in both the number of planer moulders sold, as well as the turnover for this product. This is true for models aimed at joinery production as well as higher production mill specification machines. In addition, a number of college installations shows that educational establishments are starting to invest more in this type of machinery, with the SCM Profiset models proving particularly popular.
The wider economic slowdown has had mixed effects on the woodworking machinery industry, with some segments seeing a dip in demand due to rising costs and others benefiting from the push towards automation and efficient production methods. Companies within the sector, including those producing moulders, are facing pressures from rising costs. The industry trends indicate a mix of absorbing costs where possible coupled with necessary price adjustments to offset increased expenses.
Daltons Wadkin offers one of the most diverse ranges of planer moulders of any UK distributor. The focus on moulder development spans across all brands in our portfolio including Ledinek, Kuper and SCM. From high-productivity models to compact machines, driven by the demand for versatility, precision, and customisation.
Demand for our Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) contracts have continued to grow. We are seeing a general decline in the ability of wood processing companies to maintain and support their production equipment in house. Daltons Wadkin has grown its Support Services department over the past 12 months with several new engineers joining the team, some specific to the support of planer moulders. Daltons Wadkin is now proud to boast some 15 mechanical, electrical and CNC engineers with more growth planned for 2024.
Service Director, Cliff Sharp, has a clear focus on customer support. “The relationship with our customers is truly a partnership. The emphasis on support and backup is clear for anyone to see. If we can’t support it, we don’t sell it. It’s as simple as that”.
Even more evident is the exponential increase in demand for certificated operator training. The Daltons Wadkin “Red Team” of dedicated trainers is now five strong. The team cover the UK and Ireland carrying out practical, hands on training and assessment on a range of woodworking machinery, not least planer moulders. Again, as the availability of skilled workers dwindles this is an area that we see growing further over the next 12 months.
