Carpentry and Joinery Training at Hugh Baird Construction College

Hugh Baird Construction College, renowned for its commitment to delivering high-quality carpentry and joinery education, has been working with Daltons Wadkin to improve both its machinery and staff training. Under the leadership of Course Leader Neil Dolan, the college has been progressing through a comprehensive three-year plan to enhance its facilities, training programs, and student outcomes.

As part of this improvement plan, Hugh Baird established a maintenance program with Daltons Wadkin. This partnership revealed the added benefit of Daltons Wadkin’s expert training services, which became a key component in the college’s upgrade efforts. Recognizing the need for high-spec machinery in the delivery of Level 3 bench joinery, the college made significant investments to ensure they were providing students with the best tools for the job.

“Being one of the few colleges to deliver Level 3 bench joinery, we understand the importance of using advanced machinery,” said Neil Dolan. “This investment is essential not only to meet the growing demand for skilled workers in the industry but also to improve the safety of our technicians and lecturers.”

Daltons Wadkin’s involvement went beyond machinery supply. Their tailored training program for staff, including lecturers and technicians, has been instrumental in improving skills and boosting confidence in the workshop. “The training has definitely improved our skill levels and our ability to meet current requirements,” Neil explained. “As a course leader, I now have greater confidence in our technicians’ ability to operate machinery safely and efficiently.”

A standout feature of the training was the delivery led by Warren from Daltons Wadkin, whose professional approach and expertise were highly praised. “Warren’s delivery suits us perfectly. He’s worked with both technicians and lecturers, and everyone in the carpentry and joinery department thinks he’s exceptional,” Neil added. “His professional manner and approach have really made a difference.”

Thanks to Daltons Wadkin’s ongoing support and training, Hugh Baird Construction College is on track to achieve outstanding status for its carpentry and joinery department. With improved safety, skills, and machinery, the college is better equipped to offer students a top-tier learning experience. As Neil summed up, “With your help, we’re going to achieve outstanding—and hopefully that’s next year.” (They managed to achieve this!)

Daltons Wadkin’s commitment to excellence in both machine supply and operator training has played a crucial role in Hugh Baird Construction College’s continued success and future aspirations.
