BSW Timber Upgrades to Automatic Crosscutting with Salvador

Salvador SuperPush 200 at BSW Timber

BSW Timber Newbridge Sawmill is located on a 10 hectare site in the heart of Wales. The mill operates on a treble shift pattern with an annual production of around 150,000 cubic metres of sawn timber.

With a continual policy of safety and efficiency improvements BSW’s John Smillie contacted Daltons Wadkin to update the existing Wadkin CW Hydraulic Crosscut Saw. The CW, used to cut to length prior to feeding into a Stenner MHS9 Multi-Head Horizontal Resaw line, had served the company well but was labour intensive and ultimately struggled to keep pace with the Stenner.

On a visit to inspect the production line Andy Walsh, Sales Director at Daltons Wadkin, took no hesitation in recommending the Salvador SuperPush 200 FAST Automatic Optimising Crosscut Saw. The FAST option doubles the pusher speed to 120 m/min with a material read speed of 180 m/min while maintaining a cutting accuracy of +/- 0.5mm. The cutting speed can be regulated as on the standard SuperPush between 0.2 – 2 seconds. Salvador also offer a range of outfeed options and in this instance the machine was adapted to feed directly into the Stenner Multi-Head Resaw line for continual production.

“We have averaged around 350 – 400 m3 each week through the machine since we purchased it and the after sales service and back up have been exceptional”.

Andy Walsh comments ‘Our sales of Salvador crosscuts have double year on year since 2011. The customer base is diverse including sofa and bed manufacturers, pallet and case manufactures, saw mills and window producers, but in each case the customer is a looking for the same thing – to exploit the latest equipment technology to reduce overheads and waste, increase productivity, quality and safety – to Machine Smarter. The Salvador delivers every time’.

To minimise any impact on production at the Newbridge Sawmill Daltons Wadkin carried out a turnkey weekend installation. ‘The Salvador is a first class machine, and is doing exactly what we bought it for’ comments John. ‘We have averaged around 350 – 400 m3 each week through the machine since we purchased it and the after sales service and back up have been exceptional’.
